Shock After Salisbury Train Smash in Fisherton Tunnel
Wiltshire Police Deputy Chief Constable Paul Mills has spoken out following yesterday’s dramatic train collision in Salisbury’s Fisherton Tunnel. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the incident has left passengers and their families shaken.
Investigation Underway With Top Teams on Scene
Mills said: “The thoughts of all our officers and staff are with those affected by this incident. It’s hard to imagine the shock and distress for those onboard both trains, as well as their friends and family.”
British Transport Police are leading the inquiry, working closely with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) and the Office of Rail and Road. Specialist officers and detectives remain at the scene, piecing together how the two trains collided.
Community Rallies as Police Keep Area Secure
Wiltshire officers continue to manage road closures and cordons, protecting the public while preserving the investigation’s integrity. Mills praised the local community, saying: “It’s been heartening to witness the support and patience shown over the past 24 hours.”
He urged anyone with concerns to approach officers at the scene for help.
First Responders Lauded for Bravery
Deputy Chief Constable Mills closed with thanks for the police on the front line: “I want to publicly thank our officers who arrived first for their professionalism, diligence, and courage in what must have been a very distressing and confusing scene.”
