Burglar Busted After Failing to Break into Multiple Homes in Chatham
Three Years Inside for Serial Burglar Darryl Davis
Darryl Davis, 38, from Penfold Close, Chatham, has been sentenced to three years in prison after attempting to break into several homes on the same street. His crime spree on Elliotts Way also included an unsuccessful break-in attempt on a van in nearby Aviation Walk.
Night of Failed Break-Ins Ends in Arrest
In the early hours of 11 October 2019, Davis was caught prowling back gardens and trying door handles along Elliotts Way. He first tried to break into a shed and back door but failed. Undeterred, he jumped into the next garden, opened a shed door, but still got nothing.
Davis continued knocking on back doors, failing repeatedly before finally breaking into a home. However, the homeowner confronted him and he fled.
Moments later, a resident in Aviation Walk was woken by banging noises and spotted Davis messing with the back door. He then hopped over fences and tried unsuccessfully to break into a parked van.
Police arrived swiftly and arrested Davis at the scene.
Police Praise Quick Response, Urge Vigilance
“Davis was determined to break into several homes in a Medway street,” said PC Ben Shove of Medway CID. “Thankfully, his repeated failed attempts led to his arrest and put him behind bars.”
“Burglary causes huge distress to victims. Simple steps like double-checking doors and windows and using timer switches on lights can often deter burglars.”
Conviction at Maidstone Crown Court
Davis pleaded guilty to burglary, four counts of attempted burglary, and interfering with a vehicle at Maidstone Crown Court on 13 November 2019.
