Herne Bay Man Jailed for 20 Years Over Shocking Child Rape
A Herne Bay man has been slammed with a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a young girl. Howard Hammond-Edgar, 65, carried out horrific abuse against the victim, some incidents dating back more than five years.
Mountains of Disturbing Evidence Found
Police uncovered a stash of over 2,500 indecent images and videos on 13 different devices, many of them encrypted. Hammond-Edgar was convicted of two counts of rape and admitted to seven additional sexual offences against the same victim. He also pleaded guilty to six counts of producing indecent images.
Justice Delivered at Canterbury Crown Court
The ruthless predator was sentenced on November 29, 2019, at Canterbury Crown Court. Detective Inspector Sheena Barrell, leading the investigation, praised the victim’s bravery.
“Hammond-Edgar committed vile crimes against a young girl. Despite her age, she displayed courage beyond her years to speak out against a man who subjected her to horrendous abuse,”
DI Barrell added: “I am very pleased that Hammond-Edgar has received the justice he deserves. I hope this result encourages other victims of unreported sexual abuse to come forward so we can support them and bring offenders to justice.”
