Van Break-Ins Blitz: Tens of Thousands in Power Tools Stolen Across Wiltshire
Wiltshire Police have launched a major probe after a surge of van break-ins across the county. More than 45 thefts of high-value power tools have hit Salisbury hardest, with crimes also reported in Amesbury, Warminster, and Swindon.
Same Gang Suspected in Cross-County Crime Spree
Police believe a single gang is behind the spate of raids. Similar incidents have popped up across neighbouring forces, prompting a coordinated crackdown.
“Each theft like this can have a severe impact on the victim’s livelihood and business,” said County Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector James Brain. “We’re working closely with other forces to share intelligence and catch these criminals.”
Thieves Target Vans Late at Night – Police Urge Vigilance
The break-ins typically happen between 10:30 p.m. and 2 a.m., with offenders hitting multiple vans in one go. Police are urging the public to report suspicious behaviour on 101 or online.
Protect Your Van: Top Tips to Beat the Thieves
- Park in well-lit, secure spots that are visible to passers-by.
- Remove or hide valuable tools when leaving your van unattended.
- Display signs saying no tools are left inside to deter thieves.
- Mark your tools and van with identifiable markers or paint.
- Reverse park to block easy access to side and rear doors.
- Use visible deterrents like steering locks to put crooks off.
Wiltshire Police say they are fully committed to hunting down those responsible and getting justice for victims across the county.
