Four charged with GBH after man dies following altercation at Upminster golf club

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Upminster have charged four men with GBH. Those charged are: Paulo Pinto, 50 of Braxted Road, Rivenhall. Gaetano Schembri, 24 of Buxton Road, Grays. Shkelzen Mataj, 39 of Tomlinson Avenue, Luton. Melchione Schembri, 58 of Highfield Gardens, Grays. The charges follow an incident at a golf club on Fen Lane, Upminster. Police were called at around 10.30pm on Saturday, 7 December, to reports of an altercation. Officers attended and found a man being restrained. The man collapsed a short while later, officers administered first aid and the man was taken by LAS to a east London hospital. The man, who was 37-years-old and from Hornchurch, died on Monday, 9 December. Formal identification still awaits, but his family have been informed. A post-mortem will take place in due course. The four men above were arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH. They were charged on Monday, 9 December and kept in custody to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 10 December.
