Knives Out! Flashing Blades and Violence Lands Man Behind Bars
Brutal Attack on Kent Cops After Car Break-in Attempt
Marshall Mitchell, 29, has been locked up for a year after violently attacking two Kent Police officers. The twist? He was stopped under suspicion of trying to break into a parked car in Ramsgate.
The incident unfolded early on Sunday, 5 January 2020, when cops were called to Princes Road following reports of a man fitting Mitchell’s description attempting the break-in.
Violent Struggle and Knife Discovery
When the first officer tried to search Mitchell, he shoved her to the ground, cutting her knee. A second cop chased him down Margate Road, where they engaged in a tussle, leaving the officer with cuts to his hand and knee.
Officers then found two knives—one a fearsome 20cm jagged blade—hidden in bags the offender was carrying and had thrown under a parked car.
Investigator Slams Knife-Carrying Attacker
“It is inexcusable that police officers, who above all else seek to protect the public from harm, are assaulted while carrying out their duties,” said Police Constable James Absolon, Kent’s lead investigator. “Marshall’s offending is further aggravated by the fact he made a conscious decision to carry two knives, one of which was 20cm long with jagged edges. There is no good reason to carry such an object in a public place.”

- Assaulting an emergency service worker
- Possession of two knives in a public place
Marshall Mitchell, hailing from Newington Road, Ramsgate, pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 10 February 2020.
