Folkestone Man Charged After Police Car Torched During Emergency Call

Police Vehicle Set Ablaze in Canterbury Road

A police car was deliberately set on fire while officers were attending a medical emergency in Folkestone. The incident happened just before 2am on Saturday, 21 March 2020, on Canterbury Road.

The rear of the police car suffered extensive damage and was declared a complete write-off.

Arson and Threat Charges for Barry Plaister

Barry Plaister, 44, from Downs Road, Folkestone, was arrested and has now been charged with arson and making threats to damage property.

The arson charge relates to the police car fire, while the threats charge stems from an alleged claim he would firebomb a police station.

Court Appearance and Next Steps

Plaister faced Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 29 April. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 1 June.
