Sunderland Man Jailed for Kicking Cop at London Protest
Brutal Attack Outside Houses of Parliament
Daniel Allan, 35, travelled all the way from Sunderland to London for a protest outside the Houses of Parliament. But the day took a nasty turn when he suddenly ran up and kicked a police sergeant in the back, making the officer fall to the ground.
The attack happened on 13 June at around 3.15pm. The officer suffered bruising but escaped serious injury.
Quick Arrest Thanks to Distinctive Shorts
City of London Police quickly caught Allan thanks to his brightly coloured shorts – a dead giveaway on CCTV and social media videos. He was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with violent disorder.
Remorse or Excuse?
During questioning, Allan claimed he had come to London to “help protect police and statues.” He expressed some remorse for his actions, but that didn’t stop Southwark Crown Court from slapping him with a hefty 28-month jail sentence on 10 July.
Investigation Ongoing, Police Seek Public Help
“This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack against one of our officers which we completely condemn,” said DI Neil Gunn, leading the probe. “We hope this sentence brings some comfort to the officer involved.”
DI Gunn revealed Allan was “caught red handed” and that police continue hunting others responsible for violence during recent protests. Authorities have released several images of suspects and urge anyone with info to come forward.
