Two Men Charged After Firearms Scare on Southampton Roofs
Police have charged two Southampton men after reports of armed figures on store rooftops sparked panic in the city centre last month.
Armed Rooftop Standoff Shakes Above Bar Street
At 3.41pm on Saturday 29 August, eyewitnesses alerted police to two people carrying what looked like long-barrelled firearms on roofs above shops in busy Above Bar Street. The shocking sight prompted a swift police response.
Shot in the Leg: Air Weapon Used in Frightening Incident
One 21-year-old Southampton man later came forward, saying he had been shot in the leg by what officers believe was an air weapon. The incident raised fears the weapons were real and posed a serious threat.
Two Men Face Court on Firearms Charges
- Kieron Gomm, 18, of Foundry Lane, charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on 5 January 2021.
- Aaron Vas, 21, of Derby Road, also charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He will appear at the same court on 12 January 2021.
Police continue to investigate the tense incident that shook Southampton’s city centre and brought the threat of gun violence to a usually peaceful street.
