Officer Bitten During Mayhem Outside Swindon Pub

Chaos erupted outside the Sir Daniel Arms pub on Fleet Street, Swindon, just after 8pm on Saturday, 31st October 2020. When police arrived to break up a large-scale disorder, a man swung a clenched fist at an officer. As another officer stepped in to assist, he was viciously bitten on the leg while trying to arrest the attacker.

Man Charged After Assault on Emergency Workers

Garry Ashley Drewitt, 58, from Stratton St Margaret, has been hit with two counts of common assault on emergency workers. He has been released on unconditional bail as investigations continue.

Tribute to Injured Officer’s Bravery

Supt Adrian Burt praised the officers’ professionalism, saying: “One of our officers, who stepped in to support a colleague being attacked, suffered a serious bite injury requiring hospital treatment. Despite his wounds, he helped arrest the offender, protecting both colleagues and the public. He should be proud of his actions under such challenging conditions. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
