Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Thank Transport Workers for COVID Heroics
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge personally thanked key transport workers for their relentless efforts in keeping passengers safe and moving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the select group were Euston Station Customer Service Assistants Denisa Gheorgina and Dave Allen, who shared a brief chat with Their Royal Highnesses before watching a special performance side by side.
Royal Salute to Frontline Transport Heroes
The royal couple was joined by teams from Avanti West Coast, London North Western, London Overground, London Underground, and London buses. Their visit marked the start of a UK-wide tour, spotlighting frontline workers’ stories and sacrifices during the tough times.
Before boarding the Royal Train, the pair stayed at Euston Station to hear firsthand accounts from colleagues about their pandemic experiences. The Duke and Duchess will cover 1,250 miles across the country, meeting frontline workers, volunteers, care staff, teachers, and youngsters to celebrate their inspiring work.
Frontline Staff Overwhelmed by Royal Recognition
“What a moment for the Network Rail history books,” said Joe Hendry, Euston Station Manager. “Having the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recognise our contribution to keeping the UK safe and on the move during the pandemic means so much to everyone on the front line day after day.”
James Dean, West Coast South Route Director, added: “This wasn’t just a visit for those at the event — it was a thank you to everyone in the industry. A thank you from the nation’s future King and Queen.
“Meeting them was a once-in-a-lifetime chance. I told them honestly about the challenges and the opportunities we had with fewer passengers. We talked about the mental health first aid training at Euston Station – something extremely important to them.”
