Tragic Death of Toddler in Van Crash Shakes Chippenham

A three-year-old girl has tragically died after being hit by a van on Campion Close just after midday. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the little girl was pronounced dead at once.

Family Devastated, Road Remains Closed

The toddler’s family, being supported by specially-trained officers, have been informed. The road has been shut and is expected to stay closed late into the night as police continue their investigation.

Driver Cooperating, No Arrests Made

The van driver stayed at the scene and is assisting police. So far, no arrests have been made as inquiries are in the early stages.

Officer Appeals for Respect and Safety

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this incredibly difficult time,” said Insp James Brain of the Chippenham Area Community Policing Team.

“We ask that their privacy is respected. We understand the local community will be affected, but please ensure any gatherings are safe, respect current Covid guidelines, and maintain social distancing.”

“We won’t be giving further updates while our investigation is ongoing.”
