Stunt Pilot Dies in Horror Plane Crash at Headcorn Aerodrome
Light Aircraft Crashes During Air Show Stunt
Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene on Sunday afternoon after reports that a light aircraft had crashed near Headcorn Aerodrome. Tragically, the pilot, locally named as stunt ace Angus Buchanan, died at the scene.
Stunt Gone Wrong During Multi-Plane Display
Angus was performing daring manoeuvres alongside three other planes when disaster struck. A witness said the aircraft appeared to execute a “stall turn” but lost control and crashed behind some trees near the aerodrome.
Two fire engines were dispatched, with emergency crews working alongside SECAMB, Kent Police, KSS Air Ambulance, and onsite Fire & Rescue teams to secure the crash site.
Experienced Pilot and Air Show Veteran
Angus Buchanan was no novice. An experienced pilot and member of the Stampe Formation Flying Display team, he thrilled crowds with his air show performances for years. He became a commercial pilot in 1970 and flew for EasyJet until retiring in 2009.
Air traffic controllers at Headcorn, visibly shaken by the tragedy, described Angus’s death as a huge loss to the flying community.
Authorities Investigate Fatal Crash
Kent Police confirmed they were alerted to the crash in a field near Headcorn and are working with partner agencies, including the East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire & Rescue, to establish the cause. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has also been notified and is leading the probe.
