Five Suspected Refugees Found in Chilling M25 Lorry Drama
Emergency services rushed to the Poyle Interchange on the M25 Northbound at around 8.10pm Tuesday after five suspected refugees were discovered in a 44-tonne refrigerated lorry. The group, believed to be suffering from hypothermia, were found near the Harmondsworth immigration removal centre.
Firefighters and Police Spring Into Action
Thames Valley Police traffic officers raised the alarm and called in firefighters armed with oxygen and a specialist thermal imaging camera. The team carefully checked the vehicle for any more stowaways using the thermal tech.
Rescued Refugees Wrapped in Space Blankets
The five individuals were swiftly removed from the lorry and wrapped in silver space blankets before being rushed to hospital for urgent checks. After treatment, they were handed over to the UK Border Force for further processing.
Driver Under Investigation as Police Probe Continues
The lorry driver is assisting police with their enquiries, though it remains unclear whether he has been arrested. A London Fire Brigade spokesman confirmed Heathrow firefighters used thermal imaging to ensure no one else was hiding on board.
Thames Valley Police have yet to release further details.
