Met Police Keep London Safe During New Year’s Eve Bash
Heavy Police Presence Across the Capital
As Londoners rang in 2022, the Met Police kept a firm grip on the city streets. Officers were out in full force across the capital to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year’s Eve. The Met worked hand-in-hand with the Mayor’s office, British Transport Police, Westminster City Council, and other partners in a major security push.
Commander Praises Public, Reports Low Violence
Commander Paul Brogden, who led the operation, said: “Last night’s New Year’s Eve policing went to plan with only a few minor concerns. The vast majority of the public acted sensibly to keep themselves and others safe.”
He added the crowds around Westminster Bridge and Embankment were mostly well-behaved. “We had lots of resources, including mounted police, in key spots to respond quickly. Overall, it was a night of low violence.”
Arrests and Crackdowns on Unlicensed Music Events
- 13 closure notices issued at Unlicensed Music Events (UMEs), mainly in South and East London
- Seven arrests in central London for assault, breach of bail, theft, and sexual touching
Thanks to Officers and Partners
Commander Brogden thanked the hundreds of officers and staff involved. “I’m also grateful to our partners who supported our plans. While the celebrations have ended, our officers remain on the streets working hard to keep London safe through 2022.”
