Two Young Men Fatally Stabbed in Doncaster Town Centre
Tragedy struck Doncaster in the early hours of Saturday, 29 January, when 17-year-old Janis and 20-year-old Ryan were fatally stabbed during a violent brawl involving several young men. The brutal attack unfolded just after 2.30am in the town centre.
Despite desperate attempts to save him by passers-by, police, and paramedics, Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene. Janis was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. A post mortem confirmed both victims died from stab wounds.
Suspects Arrested but Released on Bail
Shortly after the incident, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released on bail as the investigation continues. Another 18-year-old man, hurt during the chaos, was arrested on suspicion of a serious public order offence and later released without charge.
The families of Janis and Ryan have been formally informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. They have asked for privacy during this heartbreaking time and will not be making any public statements.
Police Ramp Up Presence Amid Ongoing Investigation
“We are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, who is leading the probe.
Oughton reassured the public the stabbing/" title="Stabbing" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">stabbing was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community. Patrols will continue to be stepped up around Doncaster town centre as police gather more evidence.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
The violent altercation is believed to have started on Silver Street and spilled onto High Street, ending outside a local KFC. Police say CCTV footage shows several bystanders witnessed the attack.
