Lorry Crashes into Hackney Bridge and Bursts Into Flames
In the early hours of this morning, a lorry smashed into a bridge on Kenworthy Road, Hackney, London, and caught fire. The crash happened at around 2:30am, sending emergency services rushing to the scene.
Firefighters Tackle Blaze, No Injuries Reported
Fire crews acted fast to douse the flames and secure the area. An London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a lorry alight on Mabley Street in Hackney. One lorry collided with a bridge and was destroyed by fire. Two men left the vehicle before the arrival of the Brigade. There are no reports of any injuries.”
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received over 20 calls about the blaze. The response involved two fire engines, one Fire Rescue Unit, and around 15 firefighters from Edmonton, Leyton, and Islington fire stations. The fire was reportedly under control by 3:44am.
Road Closed and Residents Told to Stay Indoors
The crash and fire have led to Kenworthy Road being closed to traffic while authorities assess damage to the bridge and nearby infrastructure.
Because of heavy smoke, residents in the area were advised to stay indoors. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but it appears the lorry hitting the bridge sparked the fire.
