12 Protesters Arrested Trying to Crash Queen’s Jubilee Parade

Chaos erupted on The Mall today as 12 protesters were arrested trying to storm the Queen’s Jubilee parade route ahead of the Trooping the Colour ceremony. The Metropolitan Police moved in quickly at around 10.10am, hauling activists away from the ceremonial procession near Buckingham Palace.

Protestors Target Dairy Industry and Royal Land

The demonstration was organised by Animal Rebellion, a pro-vegan, animal rights group campaigning against the dairy industry. The activists claim the Crown’s support for meat, fishing, and dairy industries fuels the climate emergency.

  • One protester wore a golden crown cap, another held a “Reclaim Royal Land” sign.
  • Police tackled those who strayed onto The Mall as bystanders looked on.
  • Despite the disruption, the military band and parade marched on uninterrupted.

Animal Rebellion Demands Climate Action from the Royals

Animal Rebellion, known for nonviolent civil disobedience, called for a shift to a plant-based food system and slammed the royal family for failing to lead on climate issues. Spokesperson Beau King Houston said:

“The royal family has had decades to lead the way on a just transition to plant-based farming and has failed to do so. This shift is simple and common sense; we all win.”

Houston added that “76% of currently farmed land could be rewilded to capture carbon, restore nature, and save billions of creatures – tackling the climate crisis in one go.”

In August 2021, the group caused a stir by colouring the Buckingham Palace fountain red in protest of Crown lands being used for hunting and animal agribusiness.

Police Praise Public Support After Arrests

The Met confirmed arrests for public order offences and traffic blockage. They thanked onlookers for clapping officers as they swiftly dealt with the protesters and returned to their posts.

The Jubilee celebrations pushed on, but not without a dramatic reminder from activists on the environment and animal rights.
