Blaze Breaks Out in Romney Marsh: Four Fire Engines Rush to Tackle Grass and Hedge Fire
Kent Fire and Rescue Service sprang into action after reports of burning hedges and grass on Galloways Road, Lydd, Romney Marsh. Four fire engines raced to the scene, using hose reel jets, main jets, and a fogging unit to douse the flames.
No Injuries But Cause Still Unknown
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Firefighters warned that dry conditions between May and September often lead to fast-spreading grass fires.
Easy Ways You Can Prevent Grass Fires This Summer
Most fires are accidental, but you can help stop them in their tracks by following simple safety tips:
- Keep bonfires small, well away from bushes and buildings, and never leave them unattended.
- Dispose of cigarettes properly—make sure they’re fully stubbed out and cooled. Carry a portable ashtray when on the move.
- When using a disposable barbecue, place it on a flat, non-flammable surface away from greenery or homes. Only discard it once completely cooled.
