On 13 December, just after 1am, Boothman approached a blind man and his partner waiting for a taxi. Despite being asked repeatedly to leave them alone, Boothman hurled lewd comments at the victim’s partner.

Violence Erupts After Repeated Harassment

The victim, using a white stick, tried to protect his partner as Boothman kept getting close. When the victim pushed Boothman away, Boothman shoved him back hard enough to knock his glasses off.

Police Condemn Attack on Disabled Couple

PC Andy Webb said: “This was a truly frightening encounter for the victim and his partner made all the worse by the fact they were targeted because of their disability. Boothman’s arrogance in refusing to leave them alone as they asked demonstrates his wilful intent to upset their evening and intimidate them.”

“Boothman should be deeply ashamed of his behaviour – hopefully his sentence will give him the opportunity to reflect on his actions.”

Boothman pleaded guilty to assault and two counts of threatening behaviour and was sentenced by Preston Magistrates’ Court on 21 December.
