Lunging creep busted after quick-thinking shopper spots his sleazy moves in Nottingham

Slick security nab Aaron Shand at Victoria Centre

Aaron Shand was caught red-handed after a woman spotted him making suspicious lunging movements with his phone while chatting to her.

The incident happened in John Lewis at Nottingham’s busy Victoria Centre on 29 October 2021.

Although Shand tried to slip away, he returned to the shopping centre almost two weeks later and was quickly detained by vigilant security staff who immediately called police.

More victims emerge from Shand’s twisted spree

When police seized Shand’s mobile phone, they uncovered a second female victim. She was targeted on the very same day in Boots, just yards from John Lewis.

Shand, 20, from Larkfield Road, Nuthall, admitted two counts of outraging public decency.

Justice served: community order and victim compensation

On 7 February 2023, Shand stood before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and was slapped with an 18-month community order, including 40 rehabilitation days.

He must also pay £150 compensation to each victim for his vile behaviour.

Police praise alert staff and urge victims to come forward

Sergeant Richard Tiernan, Nottingham City Centre policing team, said: “Shand showed a brazen disregard for his victims, who were left very distressed by his offending. Had he not been challenged when he was, I have no doubt his offending would have continued.”

He added: “I commend the staff who helped detain Shand and PC Gibaldi and PC Banks for securing these convictions. Anyone who fears they’ve been a victim of upskirting or similar offences should come forward – we will investigate and take strong action.”
