A Man Has Been Jailed Following A Met Investigation Into A Linked Series Of Sexual Offences On Women Travelling On Buses

Sinan Adali, aged 31, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 35 weeks’ imprisonment at Thames Magistrates on Wednesday, 22 February. He was also placed on the sex offenders register and given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Adali sexually assaulted women as they travelled alone on buses in Camden, Hackney and Walthamstow between November 2022 and January 2023. One of the women was sexually assaulted for 30 minutes while she was sleeping on a bus.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command tracked CCTV to link Adali to the offences. They carried out a proactive operation to arrest him while he was waiting for a bus on 3 February.

He was charged later that day and the overwhelming evidence against him meant he pleaded guilty during his first hearing on 4 February.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Dougall said: “Adali brazenly targeted women as they travelled on public transport and I am pleased that our investigation has resulted in him being convicted. When he’s released from prison, his activity will be monitored for 10 years to ensure he does not go on to re-offend.

“Women should feel able to travel in the public without fear of being harassed or assaulted by men and our officers will continue to take action against those who carry out such appalling crimes.”
