Angry Driver Loses Licence After Violent Road Rage Incident
Operator Licence Revoked After Shocking Attack
Kevin Griggs has been slapped with a 12-month ban from holding an operator’s licence, plus a suspension of his vocational driving licence for the same period. This follows a public inquiry led by Deputy Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton.
Road Rage Turns Violent at Roundabout
Griggs was involved in a minor collision at a roundabout. Instead of sorting it calmly, he forced the other vehicle off the road as they exited. Furious, he jumped from his cab wielding a table leg, threatening the other driver aggressively. At one point, he even struck the victim on the back with the weapon before speeding off, driving dangerously afterwards.
Convicted of Multiple Offences, Hid His Record
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Griggs was convicted of assault by beating, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, using threatening behaviour, and driving without due care. His punishments include:
- Four penalty points on his driving licence
- Three separate suspended prison sentences totalling eight months
- 100 hours of community service
Crucially, Griggs failed to inform the traffic commissioner about these convictions.
Deception Exposed, Licence Banned
During the inquiry, CCTV footage from police showed Griggs’ earlier statements were false. This led Deputy Commissioner Denton to label him an “unreliable witness.”
“The incident was of an exceptionally serious and shocking nature. The public have a right to drive without an operator using his skip lorry to endanger others. No one should face abuse and violence from Mr Griggs, no matter the excuse. The inescapable conclusion is that Kevin Roy Griggs is not fit to hold an operator’s licence,” the commissioner ruled.
