Emergency Crews Rush to Fire at Brighton Gym
This afternoon, emergency services swarmed the scene below PHX Gym in Hollingbury, Brighton. Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called out after smoke was detected at the building.
Firefighters Battle Blaze at Two-Storey Commercial Building
ESFRS sent an aerial ladder, multiple fire engines, and a mobile command unit to tackle the fire on Crowhurst Road. Firefighters battled the blaze using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, and the aerial platform at the two-storey building, which houses a gym and storage.
“There are no reports of casualties. Police are assisting at the scene,” an ESFRS spokesperson confirmed.
Road Closures and Bus Diversions in Place
Police blocked Crowhurst Road while emergency crews worked. Local bus services serving Hollingbury ASDA have been diverted and are unable to serve the store. Residents nearby have been advised to keep doors and windows shut and avoid the area.
Evacuations and Ongoing Response
Gym members were evacuated after smelling smoke. Our reporter at the scene was told emergency teams expect to remain onsite for several hours as they get the situation under control.
