Son Charged With Mum’s Murder After Flat Blaze in Islington

A 35-year-old man has been charged with murdering his mother in Islington following a deadly fire.

Fire Tragedy on Mingard Walk

Joel Ellis, from Kingard Walk, N7, was charged on Tuesday, 10 December for the murder of 59-year-old Beatrice Yankson on 26 October. He also faces arson charges with intent to endanger life.

Emergency services rushed to a fire at a flat on Mingard Walk at 12:41pm on Saturday, 26 October. Firefighters and paramedics found Mrs Yankson dead at the scene.

Burns and Smoke Inhalation Confirmed Cause of Death

A post-mortem on 29 October revealed she died from burns and inhaling fire fumes. Her son Joel Ellis was arrested and charged shortly after.

He is due to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 11 December.
