Chaos in South East London as Burst Water Main Floods Road and Fire Station
A major water main burst in South East London this morning has left Eltham Road underwater and caused havoc across the area. The blast flooded the 123 Fire Station in Lee Green, forcing closures and sending emergency crews into full operation.
Ten Fire Engines and Rescue Boats Tackle the Flood
Emergency services scrambled to the scene with ten fire engines and boats battling the massive leak. The road between A2212 Burnt Ash Road and Weigall Road remains shut as teams from Thames Water and firefighters try to bring the situation under control.
Water Supplies Hit Hard Across Multiple Postcodes
Thousands face water shortages or low pressure in SE3, SE7, SE9, SE10, SE12, SE13, and SE15 following the burst. Thames Water issued a public apology, saying:
“We sincerely apologise if you are experiencing low or no water pressure as a result of a large burst pipe on the A20 Eltham Road in SE12 early this morning. We’re on the scene and working to stop the flow caused by the burst. After that, supplies should begin to return to the affected area.”
Transport Disrupted as TFL Declares Major Incident
Transport for London has declared a major incident due to the severe flooding and road closures. Drivers are warned to avoid the area to prevent further congestion.
Residents and commuters are urged to stay clear of Eltham Road while repairs continue.
