78-Year-Old Paedophile Jailed for Kidnapping and Assault of Toddler
Robert Frid, 78, without a fixed address, was hit with a 10-year jail sentence at Reading Crown Court yesterday.
Frid is already behind bars for separate sexual offences, with parole off the table until at least 2027. This new sentence will run consecutively, stacking more time behind bars for the paedophile.
Nightmare Abduction of Three-Year-Old Girl in Bracknell
Frid pleaded guilty earlier to the chilling kidnap and indecent assault of a three-year-old girl who was playing outside with friends.
“This was a horrendous attack on a three-year-old girl, who was playing outside with friends when Robert Frid kidnapped her in Bracknell,” said Peter Beirne, head of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Investigation Review Team.
Frid lured the little girl by pretending to need help with his vehicle. When she followed him into his VW camper van, he promptly drove off.
Inside the van, he indecently assaulted the girl before abandoning her alone. Fortunately, a member of the public found her and took her home.
Forensic Breakthrough Brings 37-Year-Old Case to Justice
Thanks to leaps in forensic science, investigators linked Frid to the attack through DNA found on the victim’s underwear.
“It is over one billion times more likely that Frid contributed to the DNA discovered than if he had not,” Beirne revealed.
Faced with overwhelming evidence, Frid admitted his crimes.
“After 37 years, the victim now has justice. This is why we come to work — to crack the most serious historic crimes,” Beirne added.
Record of Success for Thames Valley Police Cold Case Unit
Frid’s conviction marks the twentieth secured by the team for historic stranger attacks on women and young girls. The unit has also convicted six murderers across Thames Valley.
“We will keep reinvestigating these cold cases, using new forensic advances to bring offenders to justice,” Beirne confirmed.
