Clonezone Targeted in Fifth Vicious Attack in Four Months
Clonezone, a store on busy Sackville Street in Manchester City Centre, has been hit again. On Sunday 10th September 2023 at around 2pm, vandals struck for the fifth time in just four months, sparking fresh fears among local businesses and police.
Bicycle Thieves Smash Windows and Cause £3,500 Damage
Police investigations reveal two suspects on a bicycle tried to break the shop’s windows – already fortified with iron bars due to previous attacks. When smashing failed, they hurled objects at doors and security gear, leaving an estimated £3,500 worth of damage.
Officers reviewing CCTV believe the bike used is the same one from an assault back in May. Detectives now desperately want to trace the bike’s owner and have urged anyone with info to come forward.
Police Reel in Suspect, Ask Public for Help
“So far, we have arrested a person, but we know someone out there knows where this bike is and who it belongs to. We’re urging them to get in touch,” said Chief Inspector Steve Wiggins, head of GMP’s City Centre Neighbourhood Team.
Though CCTV footage quality is poor, cops hope the clips will jog memories. Inspector Wiggins pointed out all attacks share striking similarities: offenders arriving by bike to wreak havoc. Solving the mystery behind these strikes is crucial to catching those responsible.
Community on Edge as GMP Steps Up Patrols
Worry is growing across the local community. Greater Manchester Police has assigned a specialist unit to crack the case and increased patrols around Clonezone to protect shoppers and staff.
“Our neighbourhood officers are friendly and approachable. If you see or hear anything suspicious, please come speak to us,” Inspector Wiggins urged. “Your information could help us catch the criminals and keep our streets safe.”
Crimestoppers is offering a hefty £2,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions. Call them anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, contact GMP on 0161 856 3345 or the 101 non-emergency number with tips about the bike or culprits in the footage.
