A horrifying incident unfolded in Croydon this morning when a 15-year-old student was fatally stabbed on a school bus. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered a stab wound to the neck, according to an eyewitness account.

The Metropolitan Police immediately responded to the incident, tracking down and arresting a teenager believed to be known to the victim. Wellesley Road in Croydon was closed northbound between the Whitgift Shopping Centre and St Michael’s Road following the incident. This road closure caused disruptions in the area, with 16 buses forced to divert from their routes, and many remained stationary at the scene.

The police received the distressing call at 8:30 am, and tragically, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by 9:21 am. Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, in charge of local policing, expressed condolences to the young girl’s family and offered support from the police.

In his statement, Chief Superintendent Brittain said, “Our immediate thoughts are with this young girl’s family who are facing the most tragic of news. Our officers are with the girl’s family to support them. I am in contact with the local community, who are clearly as concerned as we are about this tragic incident.”

He also commended the quick response of the police officers on the scene who provided first aid and assistance to paramedics. The crime scene will remain in place as the investigation continues.

This is an ongoing and developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
