Appeal For Witnesses After Death Of Teenage Moped Rider Near Orpington

Detectives are urgently appealing for witnesses after a tragic collision in south-east London resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy. The incident occurred on Monday, October 9 on Sevenoaks Way in St Paul’s Cray.

Authorities received a distress call at 15:32, reporting a collision between a moped and an orange Vauxhall Mokka car. Despite the prompt response from emergency services, the young moped rider sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His next of kin have been notified and are currently receiving support from the police.

The driver of the Vauxhall Mokka remained at the scene and received treatment for shock. Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation into the cause of the collision.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, overseeing the case, provided some initial details: “Based on our preliminary investigation, we believe that a red Mercedes car collided with the moped, causing the rider to veer into the path of the orange Vauxhall Mokka car. While we have recovered the Mercedes a short distance away from the scene, we have yet to locate the driver or any passengers in the vehicle.”

DI Thorpe continued, issuing a plea for any potential witnesses to come forward: “We urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Sevenoaks Way, particularly near the Currys store, at around 3:30 pm on Monday, to contact us immediately if they saw anything or have any dashcam or mobile phone footage. The family and friends of the teenage boy who tragically lost his life are in desperate need of answers regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

Individuals with any information or potential leads regarding the collision are asked to call 101 or reach out via Twitter to @MetCC, quoting CAD 4890/09OCT. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
