Manhunt Intensifies For Suspected Gunman After Deadliest Us Mass Shooting In Maine

The nation’s 48-hour manhunt for the gunman behind the tragic mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, has come to a somber conclusion. Robert Card, the 40-year-old perpetrator responsible for the devastating attack, has been found dead, ending the search that had captured the attention of the entire country.

The horrifying incident unfolded at the Just-In-Time bowling alley and Schemengees Bar and Grille, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Eighteen people lost their lives in the rampage, including Joshua Seal, a beloved father of four, and Bill and Aaron Young, a father and his 14-year-old son. An additional thirteen individuals were injured, marking this event as the worst mass shooting in the history of Maine.

The Androscoggin County sheriff’s office officially confirmed Card’s demise in a social media post. He was discovered near the Androscoggin River in the Lisbon Falls area, with preliminary indications suggesting that he had taken his own life using a gunshot wound.

Authorities discovered a note addressed to Card’s son at a residence linked to the suspect. In addition to the note, they found his mobile phone and a firearm inside a white Subaru identified as his. Card, described as “armed and dangerous,” had been the subject of an extensive search operation involving over 80 FBI agents and Coast Guard personnel.

Robert Card’s military background revealed that he had served as a petroleum supply specialist and held the rank of Sergeant First Class. Notably, he had no prior combat deployments. An internal police notice indicated that Card had briefly entered a mental health facility earlier in the summer due to reported hallucinations and threats of a shooting at a military training base.

Governor Janet Mills expressed relief that Card was no longer a threat, emphasizing the ongoing investigation’s importance in providing closure to the grieving families of the victims. President Joe Biden, acknowledging the tragedy, pledged to address the pervasive issue of gun violence and called on Congress to take action to enhance the safety of the American people.
