Thief Jay Langley Jailed for 15 Months After Charity Shop Spree
A serial burglar has finally been locked up for 15 months after terrorising charity shops, pharmacies, and local businesses across Bexley.
Crime Spree Hits Bexley Borough
Jay Langley, 37, from Ellenborough Road, Sidcup, confessed to three burglaries and one theft. His rampage spread across the borough, hitting:
- A plumbing store in Bexleyheath – cash stolen from the till on September 1
- The Sense charity shop in Erith – more till theft on September 8
- The Scope charity shop in Welling – till raided on September 18
- Aspire Pharmacy in Sidcup – charity collection box pinched on September 18
The burglaries sparked worry and anger among local shop owners and customers alike.
Langley Caught Despite Suspended Sentence
Shockingly, Langley was already serving a suspended sentence during these crimes. Judge Mr. Woodcock at Bromley Magistrates’ Court said Langley’s blatant law-breaking left him no choice but to impose a hefty jail term.
“His continued offences show a clear disregard for the court’s leniency,” the judge commented before sentencing him to 15 months behind bars.
A Notorious Offender
Langley’s criminal record runs deep. In 2018, he led police on a dangerous high-speed chase that saw him cross into oncoming traffic and cause a minor crash.
For that reckless stunt, he was handed 18 months in prison and a three-year driving ban. Now, his latest spree means he’s back behind bars, facing serious consequences for repeated crimes.
