Detectives have launched a murder inquiry following the tragic death of a 32-year-old woman in Elgin. The incident occurred at a property on Anderson Drive, with officers responding to a call around 19:20 GMT on Thursday, 16 November, 2023. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination has confirmed that her death is being treated as murder. As a result, extensive enquiries are currently underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place.

The investigation is being led by detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, who are urging witnesses or individuals with any information to come forward. Detective Superintendent Lorna Ferguson expressed her condolences, stating that the thoughts of the police are with the woman’s family and friends during this difficult time. Specially trained officers will continue to offer support as the investigation progresses.

Detective Superintendent Ferguson emphasised the importance of understanding the exact details surrounding the incident and assured the local community that every effort is being made to locate the person responsible. A dedicated team of officers is working diligently on the case, and the police are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who was in the area between 4.30pm on Wednesday, 15 November, 2023, and 7.20pm on Thursday, 16 November, 2023, and witnessed anything that may aid the investigation is urged to contact the police.

Even seemingly insignificant information could be valuable in establishing what transpired and providing the family with the answers they deserve. The police are particularly interested in obtaining dash cam footage, private CCTV footage, or doorbell footage that may shed light on the incident. In light of the ongoing investigation, there will be an increased police presence in the local area. Individuals with information or concerns can approach these officers as well.
