Brutal Mistaken Identity Attack Ends in Murder Conviction

A deadly brawl erupted when Prescott and his mates, Kane Adamson and Ben Dawber, launched a savage assault on an innocent man they wrongly thought was involved in a prior scrap.

Victim Out for a Quiet Walk

The “ferocious” attack happened in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester. Victim Mark Williamson, 30, was simply out for a walk to clear his head. The trio, drunk on booze and nitrous oxide, mistook him for a different man tied to an earlier fight that night.

Judge Slams Attack: ‘Wrong Man, Wrong Place’

Sentencing the trio after a tense murder trial, Judge Maurice Greene described Williamson as “the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time.” CCTV footage revealed how the attackers, driving a Chevrolet Kalos with fake plates, hunted down their mistaken target after their real victim fled.

Appeal Rejected: Life Sentence Stands

Prescott tried to appeal his life sentence, claiming it was “manifestly excessive” and that he was only a “secondary party” in the murder. But the Court of Appeal slammed this argument. Led by Lord Justice Males and Mr Justice Johnson, they ruled Prescott was fully involved and intent on violence.

The court confirmed the minimum 17-year term was justified given the gravity of the crime—where a tragic error cost an innocent man his life.
