In a massive demonstration, tens of thousands of pro-Palestine activists flooded the streets of London, demanding a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Organisers asserted an impressive turnout, estimating up to 100,000 participants, who braved the chilly December weather to voice their concerns.
The Metropolitan Police, however, provided a different figure, suggesting around 40,000 people attended the march. Despite the peaceful nature of the majority, the police reported 13 arrests during the event. Charges primarily revolved around offensive placards, with additional allegations ranging from drug possession to obstruction.
Among the arrests, a notable incident involved a man taken into custody on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. This occurred after officers identified him displaying a placard drawing comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany. The demonstration marked a significant gathering amid escalating tensions, representing the first protest following the breakdown of a week-long pause in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
