Tragic Hit-and-Run: Seven-Year-Old William Laid to Rest
Laura Brown has thanked the community for its overwhelming support after the funeral of her son William, who died in a suspected hit-and-run on Sandgate Esplanade, Folkestone, Kent, on December 6.
Hundreds Turn Out to Mourn William
The funeral at St Mary and St Eanswythe Church saw hundreds pay their respects. Laura said, “I haven’t ever seen the church so full; it was wonderful to see – you could feel the love in there.” The tragic loss of seven-year-old William has clearly touched many hearts.
Special Burial Spot Granted by King Charles
William was buried beneath a beloved chestnut tree in the churchyard — a peaceful spot where he found joy. The church was no longer used for burials, but the family’s heartfelt wish was granted after special permission from King Charles, who paused his Christmas break to approve the request.
Laura called this a “miracle” and expressed her deep gratitude to the King for his kindness during such a difficult time.
Investigation Ongoing, Suspect Arrested
Kent Police have arrested a 49-year-old man linked to the hit-and-run. He has been released on bail as inquiries continue. Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign set up by Laura has raised thousands towards funeral costs, reflecting the community’s determination to support William’s family.
The tragic death of young William has left Kent in mourning, with locals rallying around to help his loved ones through their darkest hours.
