Appeal for Witnesses After Man Injured by Crossbow in Gillingham

Police in Gillingham are appealing for witnesses following an incident where a man was injured by a crossbow while walking on Victoria Street.

The incident occurred on Thursday, February 8, 2024, when the victim was approached by an individual who reportedly fired a small, black crossbow toward the victim’s leg. Subsequently, the offender left the area, and the injured individual sought assistance at a nearby address, where an ambulance was called. The victim was later transported to a local hospital and has since been discharged.

PC Stuart Drakeley of Swale’s Criminal Investigation Department has issued a statement urging anyone with information to come forward. He stated, “We do believe that the offender will have been walking in the area, and it is likely that the crossbow would have been visible as it was too big to conceal in a bag. We also believe that the suspect and victim are known to each other.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who might have been in the vicinity between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the day of the incident. They also encourage individuals with CCTV footage or dashcam footage from the area to contact them.

Those with information are urged to contact Kent Police on 01634 792209, quoting reference 46/22545/24. Alternatively, they can reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or complete an online form.

The community’s cooperation and assistance in providing information are crucial in helping the authorities investigate this incident thoroughly.
