Third Suspect Charged Over Aggravated Burglary in Folkestone

A second suspect has been charged in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Herne Bay on Sunday, March 3, 2024, prompting an ongoing investigation by authorities.

The incident unfolded on High Street at approximately 3:30 am, with reports indicating that a man and a woman were assaulted. Both victims were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Following thorough investigations, detectives charged John Hazelgrove, 29, with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm on Sunday, March 10. Hazelgrove, listed as “no fixed address,” appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 11, where he was remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, April 8, at Canterbury Crown Court.

This development follows the previous charging of a 29-year-old man from Herne Bay on Tuesday, March 5, with similar offences of grievous bodily harm with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm. Like Hazelgrove, he was remanded and is set to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on April 8.

Additionally, a 21-year-old woman, also implicated in connection with the incident, has been released on bail as investigators continue to pursue leads and gather evidence.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information or witnesses who may have observed the incident. Those with relevant details are urged to contact Kent Police at 01843 222289, quoting reference number 46/34621/24.

Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111 or by using the online form available on their website.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officers work diligently to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
