Man Found Dead in Car Submerged in River Thames in Battersea

A tragic incident unfolded in Battersea as emergency services responded to reports of a car entering the River Thames. Police rushed to Vicarage Walk in Battersea at approximately 12:20 am on Thursday, March 28, following distressing reports of a vehicle submerged in the river.

Upon arrival at the scene, responders discovered a car partially submerged in the River Thames with one male occupant inside. Despite efforts to rescue the individual, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the car entering the water remain under investigation.

Authorities have initiated enquiries to confirm the identity of the deceased and notify his next of kin. The Metropolitan Police Service, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and HM Coastguard were among the agencies that responded to the incident.

An LAS spokesperson indicated that multiple crews were dispatched to the scene, but most resources were stood down as the area was designated a crime scene. The recovery operation commenced promptly, with the vehicle retrieved from the water at approximately 11:20 am the same day.
