Tragedy struck in Newport as a 36-year-old man was discovered unresponsive on Chepstow Road, prompting a swift response from Gwent Police.

Officers, accompanied by paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene following reports of the man’s condition at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have informed the deceased’s next of kin, who are currently receiving support from specialized officers to cope with the devastating loss.

In response to the incident, police swiftly closed Chepstow Road at 6:38 p.m., initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. Additionally, at 8:47 p.m., a temporary “air exclusion zone” was established, prohibiting the flying of drones in the vicinity as part of the investigative measures.

Chief Superintendent Matthew Williams emphasized the police’s commitment to uncovering the truth behind the tragic event, reassuring the community of Newport that every effort is being made to determine what transpired. He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
