Boys Arrested After Transgender Woman Stabbed in Apparent Hate Crime

Three boys have been arrested after a transgender woman was stabbed in what police believe to be a hate crime. The incident occurred on Norton Road in Stockton on Tuesday, shortly before 6pm.

Cleveland Police reported that armed response units were dispatched following “reports of an assault by a group of teenagers with a bladed weapon.” The boys, aged 12, 14, and 16, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, was found at the scene with a deep wound to her leg and was subsequently taken to the hospital for surgery. As of Wednesday afternoon, the three boys remained in custody.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers are supporting the victim and her family. Assistant Chief Constable Richard Baker emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, “Nobody should ever have to fear being targeted for simply being who they are. Physical violence against a person, or slurs made regarding a person’s gender identity, race, disability, or any other difference, is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in our communities.

Cleveland Police is appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to come forward. The force is committed to investigating this incident thoroughly and bringing those responsible to justice.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cleveland Police or provide details anonymously through Crimestoppers.
