Group Convicted for Brutal Attack Leaving Victim with Brain Injuries

A group of four men have been convicted and sentenced for a vicious assault that left a 35-year-old man with severe injuries, including multiple brain bleeds. The incident, which occurred on May 16, 2023, in East London, led to convictions for Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) at Inner London Crown Court.

Kirtys MacKenzie, 30, from Beckton, received the heaviest sentence of four years and three months after being convicted of Section 18 GBH. Brothers Pierre Jacobs, 20, Andre Jacobs, 28, and Lewis Jacobs, 30, all from East Ham, were convicted of Section 20 GBH. Andre and Lewis Jacobs were each sentenced to two years and three months, while Pierre Jacobs received a two-year sentence.

The attack unfolded on Clements Road, E6, following a series of vehicle collisions involving the victim and the assailants. After the collisions, the group pulled the victim from his car and subjected him to a brutal 20-second assault, leaving him motionless on the ground. MacKenzie reportedly returned to stamp on the victim’s head moments later.

The victim suffered life-altering injuries, including a collapsed lung, multiple brain bleeds, and fractures to his jaw, rib, and spine. He continues to recover, facing long-term cognitive impairments and an increased risk of epilepsy.

Detective Constable Joanne Trevor, the investigating officer, revealed that the attack stemmed from an earlier altercation between the victim and Pierre Jacobs at a gym in East Ham. The investigation involved extensive analysis of CCTV footage, medical evidence, and mobile phone data, which proved crucial in securing the convictions.

DC Trevor stated, “The victim was outnumbered and didn’t stand a chance. For some time, it was not clear if the victim was suffering life-threatening or life-changing injuries; he could have lost his life that day.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of violent crimes, and the sentences handed down reflect the gravity of the attack.
