Wigan Men Jailed Over Southport Riot Mayhem
Two men from Wigan have been locked up for nearly five years combined for their violent rampage in Southport on July 30. The pair were caught on camera hurling bricks, bottles, and wheelie bins at police officers during the chaos.
Harrison and Gibson Sentenced
Paul Harrison, 30, from Warrington Road, tried to hide behind a St. George’s flag while smashing a wheelie bin and chucking bricks and bottles at cops. He was sentenced to two years and four months at Liverpool Crown Court on September 9.
Jordan Gibson, 33, of Whelley, went a step further—tearing down a wall to throw bricks, taunting police, and damaging their vehicles. He copped two and a half years behind bars.
45 Jailed So Far for Southport and Liverpool Riots
Their convictions push the total number of jail terms linked to the Southport and Liverpool disorder to 45, with a combined haul of nearly 100 years in prison.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts blasted their actions: “These men came to Southport ready to cause mayhem and destruction. Their choices have landed them in prison. More importantly, over 50 officers were injured, and a town was left trembling with fear.”
Roberts also praised the community for rallying together: “Seeing these offenders locked up should reassure victims and send a clear warning to anyone else thinking of causing trouble.”
Police Hunt More Troublemakers
Merseyside Police continue to dig through CCTV and mobile footage, aiming to nail more suspects involved in the violence. They urge anyone with information to come forward via the Public Portal or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
This crackdown shows law enforcement’s iron grip on restoring order after public disorder strikes.
