Appeal for Information: Criminal Damage to Gravestone in Northumberland

Northumbria Police are seeking public assistance in an investigation of criminal damage to a gravestone at Netherton Lane Cemetery in Bedlington. The gravestone belongs to Bethany Fisher, who tragically lost her life in a car accident in 2017.

Bethany Fisher, aged 19, died on August 19, 2017, following a collision on Victoria Terrace, Bedlington. She was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into parked cars shortly after celebrating her birthday. The driver was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving and other offences.

The vandalism to Bethany’s gravestone occurred between 11pm on August 15 and midday on August 16, 2024, just before what would have been her birthday and days before the seventh anniversary of her death. This timing has compounded the family’s distress during an already difficult period.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
