North London Man Jailed After 70mph Police Chase Down Wrong Side of A1

A North London man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following a terrifying 70mph police chase down the wrong side of the A1. Amer Jahangeer, 33, from Tottenham, was spotted driving a blue Audi A4 estate near St Neots, Cambridgeshire, at approximately 3:10 am on January 12. When police attempted to stop him, he fled, initiating a dangerous pursuit.

Unlicensed and uninsured, Jahangeer continued southbound at high speeds, ignoring red traffic lights, roundabouts, and keep-left signs in his attempt to evade officers. His vehicle was eventually stung by police, but Jahangeer still drove onto the wrong side of the A1.

Officers acted quickly, making contact with the Audi to bring the chase to a halt. Jahangeer was arrested at the scene and found to only possess a provisional licence with no insurance.

On Friday, September 27, Jahangeer was jailed for 12 months at court, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving. He was disqualified from driving for four years and six months and will need to take an extended driving test before regaining his licence.

Sergeant Mark Atkins from the road policing unit commented: “Jahangeer’s driving was reckless and endangered others on the road. All he needed to do was pull over, but instead, his actions have led to a custodial sentence.”
