Tottenham Man Jailed After Hair-Raising 70mph Wrong-Way Chase on the A1
A North Londoner has been slammed with a 12-month prison sentence following a terrifying 70mph police pursuit down the wrong side of the A1.
Unlicensed Driver Flees Police at High Speed
Amer Jahangeer, 33, from Tottenham, was spotted in a blue Audi A4 estate near St Neots, Cambridgeshire, at around 3:10am on January 12. When police signalled for him to stop, Jahangeer sped off, sparking a dangerous chase.
Ignoring red traffic lights, roundabouts, and keep-left signs, the unlicensed and uninsured driver raced southbound, hurtling through the early morning streets.
Dangerous Pursuit Ends with Arrest
Police eventually used a stinger device to puncture the Audi’s tyres, but Jahangeer still kept going—this time driving on the wrong side of the busy A1.
Officers acted swiftly to stop the vehicle. Jahangeer was arrested at the scene. Checks revealed he only had a provisional licence and no insurance.
12 Months Behind Bars and Driving Ban
On September 27, Jahangeer was sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.
He was disqualified from driving for four years and six months and must pass an extended driving test before getting his licence back.
Sergeant Mark Atkins from the road policing unit said: “Jahangeer’s driving was reckless and endangered others on the road. All he needed to do was pull over, but instead, his actions have led to a custodial sentence.”
