Whitstable Woman Jailed for Stabbing Teen in Alcohol-Fuelled Attack

Knife Attack Sparks Shock in Whitstable

A Whitstable woman has been locked up for a year after stabbing a 19-year-old man in the back with kitchen scissors. Abbie Lucas, 30, was so drunk she can’t even recall the attack that unfolded at her temporary housing flat in West Cliff on August 22, 2023.

The victim, described as a “friend with benefits,” suffered a nasty 6cm stab wound. He needed five stitches and was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London.

Blazing Row Ends in Violent Stabbing

The court heard Lucas had been on a three-to-four-day bender, downing several bottles of wine the day of the attack. The fight kicked off in their housing block’s communal hallway, where Lucas reportedly went “loud and abusive.”

  • Lucas scratched the victim’s neck with acrylic nails and grabbed his hair.
  • The victim claims he punched her once in self-defence.
  • Returning to Lucas’s flat to collect his things, he was stabbed in the back as he bent down.

“I thought I’d been punched until I saw the blood,” the victim told Canterbury Crown Court.

Drunk and Hiding: The Arrest

Police found Lucas hiding under a basement staircase, blood smeared on her face, and visibly intoxicated. The scissors used in the attack were later recovered from a nearby bush.

In a police interview, she expressed remorse but said she had “blacked out.”

“I love that boy. I don’t know what happened, and I wish I did,” she admitted.

Trial Verdict and Sentence

Prosecutor Tom Worden told the court the stabbing was unprovoked and unreasonable, even if self-defence was claimed. Lucas was cleared of wounding with intent but found guilty of wounding—the lesser charge.

On Friday, December 20, 2024, she was sentenced to one year in prison. The judge noted her remorse but stressed the severity of the crime.

Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law said: “This case highlights the devastating consequences of alcohol-fuelled violence. While the victim avoided life-threatening injuries, the trauma inflicted will likely have a lasting impact.”

Community Talks: Alcohol and Violence

The stabbing has sparked debate over the dangers of heavy drinking and domestic violence especially in temporary housing setups. Authorities urge those struggling with alcohol or toxic relationships to seek help before things spiral out of control.
