Two counties in England have declared major incidents as extreme weather continues to batter the UK, leading to widespread flooding and hundreds of alerts and warnings.
The worsening conditions have also turned tragic, as a man’s body has been recovered from an area of flooding in North Yorkshire. North Yorkshire Police reported that the body was discovered near Intake Lane in Beal, close to Eggborough and Knottingley. Authorities believe the man, described as white, in his early 50s to 60s, with light brown short hair and stubble, may have entered the water within the last 24 to 48 hours. While police have “informally identified” him, the cause of death remains unclear.
Counties Declare Major Incidents
On Monday, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire both declared major incidents in response to severe flooding that has affected communities across the UK and Ireland.
Across England, there are currently 190 flood alerts in place, including one severe alert for part of the River Soar near Barrow upon Soar in Leicestershire. Additionally, more than 300 general flood alerts remain active.
Weather Warnings Persist
The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings for snow and ice, extending into Tuesday morning. The ongoing adverse weather is expected to continue posing challenges to emergency responders and residents alike.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow official guidance, and avoid unnecessary travel as they work to mitigate further risks posed by the extreme weather.
