Cash, Cigarettes, and Baseball Bat Seized in Police Stop Near Canterbury

Police in east Kent have seized cash, cigarettes, and a baseball bat as part of efforts to combat organised crime.

Vehicle Stop on A2

Officers patrolling the A2 near Barham, Canterbury, stopped a Ford Focus being driven suspiciously at around 10:30 pm on Monday, 20 January 2025.

A search of the vehicle revealed £5,000 in cash, 10,000 cigarettes, and a baseball bat, which the driver was unable to account for.

Arrest and Property Search

The 21-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of money laundering. Following his arrest, a search of a property in the Canterbury area uncovered an additional £12,000 in cash and 200 pouches of tobacco.

Police Statement

A Kent Police spokesperson said:
“Organised crime has a serious impact on our communities. This operation demonstrates our commitment to disrupting such activities and seizing assets believed to be connected to criminality.”

The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to determine the origin of the seized items and any potential links to criminal networks.
