A flat in Newhaven that was linked to repeated incidents of anti-social behaviour, disorder, and drug-related activity has been shut down following a successful court application by Sussex Police.
The property, located in Eastside Place, Railway Road, was the subject of a full closure order granted by Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 11 February. As a result, the flat was sealed off the same day, with the occupant removed and required to find alternative accommodation. The order will remain in place for three months.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector John Adams emphasised the positive impact this action will have on local residents. “Residents had been subjected to anti-social and violent incidents for several months. We hope that the effect of the closure order will give residents much-needed respite from the impact and intrusion these incidents have had on their lives.”
Inspector Adams also acknowledged the cooperation of the property’s landlords and other residents in assisting police efforts. “Officers would like to thank both the landlords of Eastside Place and the other residents who cooperated with police throughout.”
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any concerns about anti-social behaviour. “Reports from the local community help to build a map of crime in localised areas, which assist when handling matters such as court closure orders, as well as our day-to-day patrols,” added Inspector Adams.
